LONDON.- An exhibition of work by celebrated Brazilian-born pop artist Romero Britto will open in the UK this November where the artist will unveil new work including a series of portraits of members of the British Royal family.

The renowned Miami-based artist, who counts Elton John, Bill Clinton, Madonna, Whitney Houston, HRH Prince Charles, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia, Lili and Howard Buffet, Carlos Slim, Eileen Guggenheim, Andre Agassi and Hilde and Klaus Schwab as fans and collectors, will fly into London for the opening of the Central London exhibition at Imitate Modern Gallery.

Modern Icons will celebrate modern day pop culture icons, including The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and HM Queen Elizabeth II, alongside portraits of The Pope, Chairman Mao, Henry Matisse, Brigitte Bardot and Jesus. The three-part exhibition will feature four original oil-on-canvas Royal portraits as well as a further series of numbered, limited edition prints and other collectibles including Mixed media fine art sculptures, and collectibles.

Romero Britto comments, “It was wonderful to create their portrait, I just adore their love story and what they represent for all of us....LOVE, LONGEVITY, and HISTORY.”

“We are delighted to be exhibiting this new body of work from Britto”, comments Imitate Modern’s Fallon Khan, “he is synonymous with painting the Kings and Queens of pop, from Michael Jackson, Madonna to Lady Gaga, and he has now turned his gaze to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge one of the most iconic and most watched couples on the planet and true modern icons.”

A modern day pop culture icon, Romero Britto is one of the premiere pop artists of our time. Born in Recife, Brazil in 1963 and self-taught from an early age, he started out painting on surfaces such as newspapers. In 1988 Britto moved to Miami and began to flourish as an international artist and in the following year he was selected alongside Andy Warhol and Keith Haring for Absolut Vodka’s iconic Absolut Art campaign. Britto has combined influences from cubism with pop, to create a vibrant, iconic style that The New York Times describes, “exudes warmth, optimism and love.”

His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums on five continents in over 100 galleries including The Saatchi Gallery and Caroussel du Louvre and he has created public art installations for London’s Hyde Park and JFK Airport in New York. Britto’s neo-pop style has since lent itself to collaborations with brands including Bentley, Audi, Evian and FIFA, for whom he created an official poster for the 2010 World Cup.

The new body of work will be released over three stages, with Imitate Modern showcasing the original paintings during the first week of the exhibition, followed by the limited edition prints and collectibles over the latter half of the show.

Britto is keen to enable fans of the Royal Couple to share in his excitement and appreciation and has designed a very limited edition of giclee prints, available in four colourways and in Britto’s iconic signature style. Each print will be available in an edition of 25 and there will be a print series of Real Love and Our Princess. The prints will officially be released on 20th November and are available at Imitate Modern.
