NEW YORK, NY.- From April 19-26, artnet Auctions will celebrate Spring with 100 contemporary works by 40 artists including Damien Hirst, Robert Indiana, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Tom Wesselmann with estimates between US $2,000 and US $150,000.
Leading the sale is Pop artist Robert Indianas rare silkscreen on canvas, Hope, 2008, (estimate: $125,000-$150,000), a unique work created especially for Obamas 2008 presidential campaign. Additional highlights include Andy Warhols Pop version of Botticellis Birth of Venus, 1482, 1984, (estimate: $80,000-$120,000), and French Urban artist Mr. Brainwashs modern-day Venus, Kate Moss, painted in pink (estimate: $9,500-$10,500).
Also on offer is a wonderful group of flower works including Keith Harings portfolio Flowers, 1990, (estimate: $30,000-$35,000) and Roy Lichtensteins Pop homage to Monet entitled Waterlilies- Blue Lily Pads, 1992, enamel on steel (estimate: $100,000-$125,000). Warhol flowers include Daisy, 1982, a unique screenprint on paper (estimate: $70,000-$80,000) and three iconic 1970 hibiscus Flowers (each estimated at $38,000-$42,000). Tom Wesselmann is represented by several works including Mixed Bouquet with Léger, 1993 (estimate: $25,000-35,000), a nude study that is a sly Pop homage to Fernand Léger.
A special group of flower photographs includes Robert Mapplethorpes iconic Calla Lily, 1984 (estimate: $15,000-$20,000), and Andre Kerteszs Tulipe mélancolique, 1939 (estimate: $14,500-$18,500).
Damien Hirst is represented by a lovely group of recent butterfly works including Jacobs Ladder (Green Butterfly), 2008 (estimate: $13,000-15,000).
