ATLANTA, GA.- The High Museum of Art has partnered with The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCA GA) to host an exhibition highlighting selected paintings and drawings from the permanent collection of MOCA GA. This exhibition will comprise approximately 40 paintings and drawing by Georgia artists, all from the collection of MOCA GA. Featured artists will include Larry Jens Anderson, Don Cooper, Herbert Creecy, Kojo Griffin, Medford Johnson, Katherine Mitchell, Larry Walker and Rocio Rodriguez. The exhibition will be on view at the High from September 2, 2011, through February 5, 2012.

“It’s been a delight to work with Annette Cone-Skelton on this exhibition and, in the process, to gain a greater knowledge and appreciation for those individuals who have been integral to the visual arts in the state of Georgia,” commented Michael Rooks, the High’s Wieland Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. “I look forward to providing a platform for the presentation of work by Georgia artists in the broader context of the High Museum’s modern and contemporary collections.”

This exhibition continues the collaboration between the High and MOCA GA that began with a transfer of 21 works of art by Georgia artists from the High’s collection to MOCA GA in September 2010. More recently, Rooks and Cone-Skelton have joined forces in MOCA GA’s annual artist grant program titled Working Artist Project, with Rooks serving as the 2011 juror.

“Working with Michael Rooks has been an exceptional curatorial experience; he has a keen eye for quality and a thirst for knowledge of our local arts community. I am especially delighted that the exhibition offers an opportunity to experience a little bit of our history. The 40 or so works we selected for this exhibition range from 1960 to 2010. MOCA GA’s continued collaboration with the High has given us a broader audience in which to showcase the artists of Georgia and the work that we do in our Education/Resource Center,” stated Annette Cone-Skelton, director of MOCA GA.
