Important 19th C. Furniture, Sculpture & Works of Art

LONDON, ENGLAND.- Christie’s will hold on March 20 its Important 19th Century Furniture, Sculpture & Works of Art. The quintessence of 19th Century taste and quality reigns supreme in this sale of exquisite pieces by famous names, including Charles-Henry-Joseph Cordiera whose magnificent pair of French patinated-bronze and onyx busts entitled Nègre du Soudan and Arabe en Burnous is among the offerings. François Linke, the most celebrated cabinet maker of the turn of the Century, is represented with a dining suite of twelve chairs, a console desserte, and a highly elaborate dressing table. The sale also features pieces made for the Great Exhibitions such as a fine French carved pearwood plaque by Lienard, depicting wild animals in the countryside; and a gilt-bronze and green quartz garniture by Maison Millet made for the 1904 St Louis World’s Fair.
