LONDON, ENGLAND.- The spring sale of European Sculpture and Works of Art, 900-1900 will offer a fascinating collection of 19th century marble carvings by Edmonia Lewis, one of the first female American sculptors to live and work in Rome. A charming and rare work by her of two sleeping children is estimated to fetch £20,000-30,000. An outstandingly preserved allegorical marble, Il Genio della Pesca by the Florentine 19th century sculptor Pio Fedi epitomises the high level of refinement achieved by Italian craftsman of the period. It is estimated at £20,000-30,000. One of the main highlights of the sale is a unique marble by French sculptor Alfred Boucher, entitled Volubilis. The work is a seminal example of late 19th century carving, demonstrating the change in taste and style that came with the move of the artistic capital of Europe from Rome to Paris. It is estimated to fetch £100,000-150,000.

The sale will also include a rich selection of French bronze animalier sculpture, with works ranging from Antoine-Louis Barye to Georges Gardet. More than 50 pre-19th century works of art and sculpture, from bronze and ivory statuettes to plaquettes and kunstkammer objects make this a truly diverse sale.
