STOCKHOLM.- Part of the Chinese terracotta army and the most recent archaeological findings will be exhibited in Stockholm during the fall of 2010. The exhibition will be unique since it will be displayed in a spectacular environment and feature several new unique findings from other similar gravesites.
For the first time outside of China the artefacts will be displayed under ground, in the Secret Rock Galleries below the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in central Stockholm. The setting is similar to the environment in which the artefacts once were found.
"As a visitor one will get that sense of the first magical moment encountering the army face to face in the excavation situation", says museum director Mrs Sanne Houby-Nielsen.
The setting is ideal, utilising the subterranean Secret Rock Galleries, the former naval base of the Swedish Navy. Its situated on the island of Skeppsholmen, opposite of the Royal Palace. The Rock Galleries are usually not open to the public.
"We are positive towards using the rock galleries for the public, it is in accordance with our administration plans for the island of Skeppsholmen. We want to create a more open and creative meeting point, for Stockholmers as well as tourists", says Ulf Tomner, at the Swedish National Property Board (Statens fastighetsverk).
