Mark Building, Exterior.

PORTLAND, OR.- Laing-Malcolmson will be responsible for the Museum’s distinguished collection of Northwest art from the late 19th century to today. Her duties will include the research, documentation, and building of the collection and presenting exhibitions based on the collection and the work of artists living and working in Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Wyoming.

Most recently, Laing-Malcolmson served as the president of Portland’s Oregon College of Art and Craft (OCAC). She has also served in a variety of leadership and curatorial positions at numerous regional arts organizations including the Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art in Great Fall, Montana, The Beall Park Art Center in Bozeman, Montana, and Portland’s Pacific Northwest College of Art.

Laing-Malcolmson received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Montana State University, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Pacific Northwest College of Art. She has extensive experience as a teacher and curator for a variety of institutions and galleries including Montana State University, Pacific Northwest College of Art, Dancing Colors Gallery, Haynes Fine Arts Gallery, and the Elizabeth Leach Gallery.

The curator of Northwest art position was endowed by a generous gift from arts patrons and Museum life trustees Arlene and Harold Schnitzer in 2006. This endowment supports not only the curatorial position but also acquisitions and programming for this important collection.

Laing-Malcolmson will begin work at the Museum on August 30.
