MILWAUKEE.- In the tradition of great salons as gathering places for artists and
literary figures, MAM hosts a series of three Salon Nights in the Brandt and Weston: Two Geniuses of Photography exhibition gallery. This will take place Thursday, January 30, 6:15 p.m. with Joel Snyder, Professor of Art History at the University of Chicago, compares the artistic development of Edward Weston and Bill Brandt.
On Thursday, February 6, 6:15 p.m. Chris and George Tysh, internationally published poets and teachers, present their poetry and discuss the role of the image - both photographic and linguistic - in the creation of memory and desire. Co-sponsored by Woodland Pattern Book Center.
Only in Milwaukee will the exhibitions of works by two of the most respected photographers of the 20th century be on view together. The exhibitions, made up largely of vintage prints, contain a full range of works by Bill Brandt and Edward Weston. Brandt and Weston: Two Geniuses of Photography traces the creative growth and stylistic changes of each artist, presenting their distinctive and innovative visions side by side. Celebrated for their treatment of photography as an art form, Brandt and Weston made a huge impact on the art world and how people view photography.
