AMSTERDAM.- Foam_Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam is very pleased to announce the members of the jury for the Paul Huf Award 2010. Simon Njami (France, chairman of the jury, independent curator, lecturer, art critic and publicist), Tony Chambers (UK, editor in chief of Wallpaper Magazine), François Hebel (France, director of international photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles), Chen Jiaojiao (China, editor in chief of Outlook Magazine China) and Lesley Martin (USA, head of publications at Aperture Foundation in New York) will meet on March 10th and 11th to select the winner of the Paul Huf Award 2010 from a selection of around 100 nominated photographers. The prize consists of a cash sum of € 20,000, a three-week period as an artist-in-residence in Amsterdam and an exhibition at Foam in September 2010. The jury will be meeting in Amsterdam on March 10th and 11th , and the winner will be announced on the evening of March 11th.

This year will be the fourth time that Foam organizes the Award. Since 2007 the Paul Huf Award is specifically intended to encourage talented young photographers, from all over the world. This focus was confirmed by the fact that in 2007 the jury even awarded two very talented photographers: Mikhael Subotzky (South Africa, 1981) and Taryn Simon (USA, 1975). In 2008 the winner was Pieter Hugo (South Africa, 1974) and last year Leonie Purchas (U.K., 1978) won the award. Her show was on view at Foam from September 11th till October 25th 2009 and was very well received.

In order to arrive at a representative international selection, Foam approached twenty nominators this year from different parts of the world. All nominators – each of them experts in the field of photography – were asked to nominate five talented photographers under the age of 35 from the region where he or she is active. The winner of the Award, could therefore be from any country around the world. The prize can be awarded to any form of photography: from documentary or applied photography to photojournalism or artistic work. The work of the winner must demonstrate a well-defined visual idiom, and it must be distinctive in its content as well as formal aspects. In all, 100 nominated photographers were invited to submit a portfolio, from which the jury will select a winner.
