LONDON, ENGLAND.- British arts minister Lady Blackstone hinted that more money could be given to regional museums. Last month the rescue package for regional museums was £30m short of the amount needed. The Department for Culture, Media and Sport confirmed that a "significant additional sum" for the museums will come from the Department for Education and Skills, and a smaller amount, thought to be around £6m, will come from grants allocated to national museums. Although it will still be well short of what was needed, it would soften the blow for the third of museums, which are likely to lose when the money is shared out early next year.
