WASHINGTON, DC.- The Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design announces the appointment of Mr. Fred Bollerer as its new Chief Operating Officer.

Bollerer comes to the Corcoran from Real Change Strategies, LLC in McLean, Va., where he has served as partner since 2007. At Real Change Strategies, Bollerer has provided leadership and direction to a number of non-profit organizations, specifically within the arts and cultural arena.

“We are excited to welcome Fred Bollerer as the newest member of the Corcoran’s executive team,” said Director and President Paul Greenhalgh. “Fred’s extensive experience in strategic planning, business development and strong management skills will contribute to the Corcoran’s future successes.”

Prior to his time with Real Change, Bollerer was a partner at Venture Philanthropy Partners in Washington, D.C. for six years. With a special focus on financing and asset management, he led successful investments in four major Washington regional nonprofits – totaling more than $10 million.

“The Board of Trustees has complete confidence that Fred will effectively manage the operations of the Museum and College; under his astute leadership, we expect the institution to excel,” said Harry Hopper, Chairman of the Corcoran Board of Trustees. Bollerer also has been a management advisor at the Morino Institute in Washington, D.C. since 1998, and from 1997-2000, he served as president and chief executive officer of the institute’s Potomac KnowledgeWay project.

Bollerer has a broad background in finance. From 1993 to 1997, he served as president and chief executive officer of Riggs Bank N.A. He served as chairman of the board and chief executive officer of First American Bank of Virginia and also was chairman and chief executive officer of First American Metro Corporation, the operating entity that oversaw the three First American Banks in Virginia, Maryland and D.C., from 1988 to 1993. Prior to joining First American, Bollerer was executive vice president of First City National Bancorporation in Houston, Texas and president of its lead bank. He began his career in banking in 1967, at Continental Bank in Chicago.

Additionally, Bollerer serves as a board member of the following non-profit organizations in Washington: Child Trends, See Forever Foundation and Heads Up. He also serves on the board of for-profit
companies.

Bollerer received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Ohio University and a Master of Business Administration from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Phoenix, Ariz. Fred and his wife, Susan, have been married for 45 years. Fred and Susan have a son, Chris Bollerer of Booz Allen Hamilton, and enjoy spending time with their two grandchildren.
