KORTRIJK, BELGIUM.- Classic Biennial closes agreement with the professional association VNAG(Vereniging Nederlands Antiquairs Genootschap - Association of Dutch Antique Dealers) for thefurther development of the segment Antiques and ancient art. In order to make the segment Antique and Ancient Art even more interesting, an agreement wassigned recently between the professional association VNAG (Vereniging Nederlands AntiquairsGenootschap - Association of Dutch Antique Dealers) and the organizers of the biennial Classic. Inclose co-operation with the British association LAPADA (Association of Art and Antique Dealers)and the Koninklijke Gilde van Vlaamse Antiquairs (Royal Guild of Flemish Antique Dealers), VNAGand Classic will take care of the organization of the sector Antiques and Ancient Art, starting in2003.The collaboration mentioned above, international professional associations, guarantees the highquality of the zone Antiques and Ancient Art. All exhibited objects will be inspected previouslyby an independent commission of experts, art historians and custodians. Objects that do notanswer to the authenticity and quality criteria will irrevocably be removed from the booths. Buyers will obtain a certificate with a precise description and dating of the objects bought. This new co-operation will give Classic - that is already famous in the Benelux and NorthernFrance - an extra impetus. The fair will acquire an even more important position in the list ofArt and Antiques events, an important element for both the young and the seasoned collectors, orfor those who wish to enrich their interior with valuable antique. Herman Konings, a well-known Belgian trend watcher, is not surprised about the recent growinginterest for antiques: "Every new discovery or development we admire, but we are getting tired bythe speed with which each innovation follows the previous one. The future is being mortgaged: whatis "in" today, is definitely "out" tomorrow. The old - but not so familiar - history become trendybecause of that: we are looking with peaceful envy at the stilled witnesses from a far and richpast. Exhibitions of old masters get more visitors then exhibitions of modern art. The big storiesare our stories, to which we are entitled to. Now more then ever. The past has a big future!" The Classic Biennial IX in 2003In the autumn of 2003 (Saturday 1 - Sunday 9 November), the biennial Classic will show for the 9thtime how antiques and modern items, classic an design can be harmoniously combined. By showingpossibilities in continually renewed variations, Classic outgrows the numerous living, arts andantiques exhibitions.
