Just Added! Tom McCarthy in Person! at George Eastman House

ROCHESTER, NY.- The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House will welcome actor/writer/filmmaker Tom McCarthy at 8 p.m. Monday, April 20 —Â a special addition to the Dryden calendar — to introduce his latest film, The Visitor, and talk with the audience following the screening. Also a popular actor in the industry, McCarthy has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Duplicity, Baby Mama, Syriana, Good Night and Good Luck, and HBO’s The Wire.

“In his second feature after The Station Agent, Tom McCarthy again has crafted a quietly powerful and humanistic character piece,” said Jim Healy, Eastman House’s assistant curator of motion pictures, about The Visitor.

The Visitor (US 2007, 105 min.) is an acclaimed and popular independent film, character actor Richard Jenkins (who earned an Oscar-nomination) gives a masterful leading performance as Walter Vale, an emotionally inert, widowed college professor. When Walter makes a rare visit to his Manhattan condo, he finds it is occupied by a young couple, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Guirra), who are both illegal immigrants. The story of the developing friendship between these disparate characters is both moving and surprising.

“Best movie I've seen so far this year? Hands down, it's Tom McCarthy's superb The Visitor, which turns Richard Jenkins, one of the best character actors in the business, into a full-fledged star,” said Lou Lumenick of The New York Post.
