The Window, Carlos Soríns Poignant, Bergman-Inflected Drama, has U.S. Theatrical Premiere at Film Forum |

NEW YORK, NY.- Film Forum will present the U.S. theatrical premiere of THE WINDOW by Argentine director Carlos Sorín (HISTORIAS MINIMAS; BOMBON: EL PERRO), beginning Wednesday, May 6. As a teenager, Sorín was deeply affected by Ingmar Bergman’s WILD STRAWBERRIES, a classic story of an elderly man recalling significant moments in his life. In THE WINDOW, Antonio, an elderly, literary gentleman, is bedridden in his comfortable hacienda, waited upon by family retainers. His long-absent son, a renowned pianist, is expected that evening and preparations (tuning the piano, chilling champagne) are in full swing. When Antonio escapes the constraints of his too-solicitous staff to wander through the adjoining fields, his thoughts wander as well. We are left with the understanding that each of us collects “rosebud” moments – those defining experiences of passion which only become more significant with time as they crystallize a life’s meaning into a few, precious images.
Presented with THE WINDOW: animator George Griffin’s THE BATHER, a short film which draws upon the rich thematic coupling of voyeurs and bathers throughout cultural history. Inspired by Pere Portabella’s THE SILENCE BEFORE BACH, Griffin remakes his 1973 animated short (a nude dancer à la Isadora Duncan), by overlaying it upon live action footage of a woman showering behind a translucent curtain. Text provides a third layer of information, suggesting the role time plays in transforming erotic memory.
THE WINDOW and THE BATHER will have a 2-week engagement, May 6 – 19, at Film Forum,
