Wolverhampton Art Gallery Launches New 'Hire Space' |
WOLVERHAMPTON.- Converted from the previous shop premises located near the Lichfield Street entrance to the Art Gallery, the 'Hire Space' will provide a platform to showcase art by artists who were born, work or study in the West Midlands. Annually the 'Hire Space' will provide seven exhibition slots for artists to hire and three slots for use by Wolverhampton Arts + Museums Education and Outreach teams, costing only £195 to hire for 4-weeks, the application process is open to all on a first come first serve basis.
Exhibitors will also receive a free 30-minute consultation regarding exhibiting and booking the space, in addition to a platform for which to sell their work.
The 'Hire Space' will be starting its programme with a photographic project called Photo ID: Young People from Wolverhampton which relates to the exhibition Interface by Michelle Sank, currently on display.
Organised by the Education and Outreach Team, the exhibition Photo ID: Young People from Wolverhampton displays artworks created during half-term workshops by young people from the local Muslim and Sikh communities photographed as part of the exhibition Interface by Michelle Sank.
Led by the documentary photographer Michelle Sank, the workshops allowed young people to interpret their understanding of their culture, religion and personalities in the City of Wolverhampton, and, more generally, how traditional and Western values become linked.
Sank also asked the young people questions including what would they like to be when they grow up and if they felt they fitted into society as a whole. Through the photographic medium, Sank enabled the groups to develop their skills, practically through learning about photography, but also helping to build confidence through discussion and expression of their visual identity.
