FORT WORTH, TX Thirty-two children, recommended by their teachers and principals, participate in Spring Break Art Camp at the Modern, a free, hands-on learning program during their vacation from school. Campers spend time in the galleries and on the grounds exploring the Museum's permanent collection and special exhibitions. This exploration is followed by time in the Museum studios, where campers work throughout the week with an accomplished area artist who provides enriching opportunities to process, apply, and respond to ideas formed in relation to the art in the galleries. The last day of camp ends with a reception and display of artwork to celebrate the campers’creative accomplishments with families and friends. Under the direction of skilled and thoughtful instructors, Modern campers make exciting discoveries concerning art, the world, and themselves.

Spring Break campers are chosen from elementary schools in the Fort Worth Independent School District after submitting a short essay about why they would like to attend Spring Break Art Camp accompanied by three pieces of artwork and a written recommendation from their art teacher. This program is provided to these students free of charge. The schools participating are FWISD Title I elementary schools including South Hi Mount, Lily B. Clayton, D. McRea, North Hi Mount.

The idea behind this camp is to provide an art camp experience for a group of children that can not or would not be able to take part in other camps due to financial circumstances within their family. Spring Break Art Camp introduces the museum to local families and creates a relationship with art for children interested in art.
