MONTCLAIR, NJ.- The George Segal Gallery at Montclair State University and Studio Montclair present “Continuum,” Studio Montclair’s 12th Annual National Juried Art Exhibition. Juried by Patterson Sims, sixty-one artists and 105 works were selected which present a range of styles, media and themes. In preparing their annual exhibit, the exhibition committee solicits work by artists from all over the country. Although a theme is chosen annually, the hope is that artists won’t find it too constraining. This year’s exhibit was juried by Mr. Sims, former Director of the Montclair Art Museum , who admits to an eclectic eye. “As should be quite apparent with this selection, I like a lot of different artistic points of view, styles of art, and media. For me abstraction and representation are equally appealing. I have a specific fondness for art that has qualities as contradictory as the elegiac, wit and humor, surrealism, photo-realism, and minimalist and reductive art. Overall I favor the visually emphatic and graphically bold. That diverse and broad taste generated a larger and eclectic assortment of selected artists and thereby spawned a more packed installation than another juror might have favored.” He adds "I like to put disparate art in proximity to both stress difference and unexpected points of interconnection. Photo-based images and lots of other media, play a major role in this show."

Darren McManus, a local artist from Lambertville, NJ was selected for the exhibition and will be showing a circular painting titled, “Melun‘s Rose Window.” Executed in acrylic on beveled wood and nearly four feet in diameter, the compositional framework for the painting is based on the sacred geometry used in the rose window of the Melun cathedral in France.
