New Operating Hours and "Free Day" at the Akron Art Museum

AKRON, OH.- The Akron Art Museum is announcing a change in operating hours. Beginning the week of February 15, 2009, the museum will be open Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between 11 am and 5 pm, and Thursdays from 11 am until 9 pm. The museum will be closed Monday and Tuesday. The museum will honor group tours that have already been booked on Tuesdays through March.

It has been the museum’s practice since 2007 to offer free admission one day a month. Beginning, Sunday, March 1, 2009, free admission will now be offered on the first Sunday of every month, allowing more members of the public—including working parents and their children—access to art during these straining financial times. The move to Sunday will offer additional cost savings to visitors because downtown parking is free on weekends. Visitors may park in the municipal deck on South High Street directly opposite the museum’s main entrance for free on every first Sunday.

Museum admission for adults is just $7; seniors and students are $5; and children under 12 always receive free admission. The Akron Art Museum is one of a few cultural and entertainment venues offering such substantial savings for families with children.
Dr. Mitchell Kahan, museum Director and CEO, explains “We’re proud to be an important cultural resource for Akron and are happy to offer families with children, and others with limited means, the opportunity to enjoy access to the museum. And it is important to remember that members always have free admission, free parking and special discounts. I bet quite a few first-time visitors trying out Free Sunday will enjoy the museum so much they will sign up for a membership. “

Museum membership offers an additional money-saving opportunity, starting at $50 for an individual, with 15% off for students and seniors. Members not only receive free admission to the museum, but also reduced prices for a wide variety of museum events and programs.

The Akron Art Museum continues to provide excellent entertainment value, and has a number of exciting exhibitions on the schedule, including the work of Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson, Lee Friedlander, Edward Weston and William Wegman. Regular and engaging classes and programs for art lovers of all ages are also offered at the museum. Please visit our website for further details at www.AkronArtMuseum.org.
