It's Mayhem During January 16 "Clark After Dark: Renaissance Revelry"

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA.- Tudors rule the palace and ruffs are all the rage during “Clark After Dark: Renaissance Revelry” at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. This hip celebration of the British Renaissance (with a bit of mayhem thrown in thanks to Shakespeare and Company) will be held from 8 pm to midnight on Friday, January 16. Admission is $10 ($8 per member) at the door, and you must be 21+ to enter. Not sure what to wear? We’ll provide the crowns and knightly shields.

Shakespeare and Company from nearby Lenox will be on hand to present demonstrations and short workshops on “the art of making mayhem” during which you can learn swordplay and stage fighting. And since no party is complete without dancing, they will also teach the pavane, a Renaissance line dance. “Shake”-speare your booty and heat up the dance floor to modern tunes provided by DJ Sound Choice.

With “Tudor” elixirs, beer, and wine at the cash bar, it will be a party fit for a king. Feast on complimentary Cornish pasties (beef, mushroom, and curried salmon), pigs in blankets, cheddar toasts, BBQ chicken wings and legs, and more. For dessert, don’t miss the sherry trifle, gingerbread cookies, spiced apple tarts, and figgy pudding, of course. Complimentary soft drinks and mulled cider will be available.

The evening will also include visits to the Clark’s print room. A “knightly” raffle will be held with prizes provided by Blue Q of Pittsfield, MA.

This series of hip happenings takes you around the world and transports you through time with music and dancing, out-of-the-ordinary activities, exotic snacks, and late-night encounters with art. Don’t miss “Clark After Dark: Viva Flamenco!” on February 20 and “Clark After Dark: Planet Clark” on March 20.
