California College of the Arts, San Francisco, Announces the NAAB Accreditation of its Master of Architecture Program

SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- California College of the Arts is pleased to announce the professional NAAB accreditation of its Master of Architecture (MArch) Program as of January 2008. CCA's Bachelor of Architecture (BArch) Program has been accredited at the highest level since 1992.

CCA promotes excellence and innovation in architecture and urbanism through explorations in culture, media, and technology. Students are encouraged to collaborate within and across disciplines to take full advantage of our art and design school environment. Extensive international travel studio programs and study-abroad opportunities are available.

The program actively seeks the participation of leading international figures for studio instruction and juried reviews. It hosts an ambitious lecture series (see http://www.cca.edu/academics/barch/lectures for the schedule) every semester, and its year-round exhibitions feature prominent international architects, designers, and scholars.

The innovative curriculum of CCA's MArch Program offers three specialized areas of focus:

MEDIAlab: Cross-disciplinary media, advanced digital tools, and new fabrication technologies

URBANlab: Urban design and global city research in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond

ECOlab: Green design and sustainable technologies

The nationally renowned architect Ila Berman is the new chair of both the BArch and MArch programs. Berman came to CCA from Tulane University, where she was the associate dean of the School of Architecture and director of the graduate program. She initiated URBANbuild, a Tulane program that provides urban design and sustainable housing solutions to rehabilitate and revitalize hurricane-damaged areas of New Orleans, and she is a principal and design director of the interdisciplinary architectural research and design firm studioMATRIXX. Berman holds a doctorate in design and a master of design studies degree in architecture from Harvard University.
