VIENNA.- The exhibition celebrates the 30 year anniversary of the Ephesos Museum in Vienna by offering visitors a unique experience of the World Heritage Site Ephesos: 25 large format visuals, created by Ahmet Ertu_, showing the antique city, its awesome monuments and sculptures in their entire splendor, are combined with invaluable pieces from the Ephesos Collection. The presentation under the auspices of the Austrian Federal Minister for Science and Research, Dr. Johannes Hahn and the Turkish Minister of Cultural Affairs, H.E. Ertu_rul Günay as well as Dr. Claudia Schmied the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture, recognizes the decades of close cooperation between Austria and Turkey for the conservation and exploration of the antique city, and the publication of the outstanding art book published by the house of Ertu_ & Kocabıyık: Ephesos: Architecture, Monuments & Sculpture.
The antique city of Ephesos is situated on the aegean coast of Turkey. As one of the most splendid settlements on the Aegean sea, Ephesos was the home to a glorious civilisation. Ephesos´architects and artisans created a unique city of marble, a metropolis which remains today continue to fascinate several thousand daily visitors. The human civilization of Ephesos has been traced back to the Neolithic period around 6.000 BC. Throughout its rich history, the city was caught in the middle of wars between various civilizations and destroyed many times. The ruins seen today, dating back to to the city´s Roman period around 200 BC, reflect the height of Ephesos´ urban and economic debvelopment.
