RICHMOND, VA.- In 1983, a group of Richmond-based artists and teachers began organizing collective exhibitions and projects with the intention of introducing the expressive possibilities of various printmaking media to a broader audience. More than 30 artists now make up the group known as One/Off, a name that emphasizes a shared interest in innovative approaches to printmaking. The technical and aesthetic concerns of the members are diverse and represent a wide range of singular and combined techniques.

Over the years, One/Off works have been exhibited nationally, internationally, and throughout Virginia as a part of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts statewide exhibitions program. This suite of prints was produced in 2005. Like the group’s other portfolios, this set is linked by a common thread – in this instance the 8-by-10-inch size of the original paper. Beyond that commonality, these 22 prints display the versatility and wealth of imagery obtainable with the print media, as well as the creativity and varied interests of the One/Off artists.

“One/Off Printmakers: 8 x 10” is part of “Old Dominion/New Perspectives,” a series of exhibitions and programs focusing on the American South, traveling throughout Virginia with support from Philip Morris U.S.A. and The Council of VMFA.
