AKRON, OH.-The Akron Art Museum will expand its mission to enrich lives through modern art -- outside of northeast Ohio -- by lending three of its 1960s pop art masterpieces to major exhibitions across the continent.

One of the museum’s Andy Warhol Brillo Boxes will go to a major survey of Warhol’s works in Columbus titled Andy Warhol: Other Voices, Other Rooms. Brillo Box will be on view at the Wexner Center for the Arts from September 13, 2008 to February 15, 2009. It will be the only U.S. presentation of this spectacular exhibition featuring films, videos, paintings, drawings, prints, wallpaper, installations, objects, seldom heard audio recordings and extraordinary archival material.

Another Warhol piece, Single Elvis, will be on loan to the Warhol Live exhibition, a major year-long tour organized by The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. Single Elvis will be on view in Montreal from September 25, 2008 to January 1, 2009; Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, de Young from February 14, 2009 to May 17, 2009 and The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh from June 10, 2009 to September 15, 2009. Warhol Live will examine the artist’s work through a musical perspective.

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will display Chair, by Yayoi Kusama, as part of its Asian/American/Modern Art: Shifting Currents exhibition at the de Young. Chair will be on view from October 25, 2008 to January 18, 2009. The exhibition will advance awareness of the important aesthetic achievement represented by artists of Asian ancestry working in America, extending beyond the simple category of ethnicity. It explores the wide range of visual strategies employed by individuals navigating the tensions that suspended them between Asia and America in their cultural condition and artistic practices.

Awareness of the Akron Art Museum and its collection continues to grow since the opening of the John S. and James L. Knight building in 2007. Being one of the cornerstones in the reinvention of downtown Akron, the museum is honored to promote its collection, as well as the City of Akron outside the state and even the country.
