A CORUNA.- The exhibit The Spanish Portrait in the Prado Museum: From Goya to Sorolla is the second part of the cycle dedicated to the Spanish portrait in the Prado which ends its journey at the Fundacion Caixa Galicia in Coruña. The exhibit brings an end to the first cycle of the Itinerant Prado Program, which initiated a fructiferous relationship that started in Santiago de Compostela in March of 2006 with the Fundacion Caixa Galicia as the first entity in Spain to collaborate in this magnificent project with the most important museum in the Spain.

The new exhibit from the Prado includes 66 paintings made by artists such as: Goya, Vicente López, Madrazo and Sorolla, among others.

From Goya to Sorolla offers the an opportunity to present the stylistic evolution of the Spanish portrait, the different social implications of the genre in Spain, the self-image formulated by the various sitters, the image they wished to convey to posterity, and the various devices and representational strategies used by artists of each period.

This important sample exhibit will allow the public to notice with great clarity the reflection the painters of 19th century made while painting. The paintings exhibited, include works by Goya, Vicente Lopez, Federico and Raimundo de Madrazo, Sorolla, etc. - it presents and displays the different typologies through outstanding examples from the successive styles that went on throughout the 19th century: the neoclassicist, the romantic and the diverse directions of the last third of the century, between which they emphasize the realism and the natural.

The collection of the Museo del Prado includes some of the most important examples of sixteenth- to nineteenth-century Spanish portraits to be found in any collection world-wide.
