CALGARY, AB.- The newest contribution to public art in the City of Calgary is TORODE’S $1 million sculpture by acclaimed Canadian artist Micah Lexier. The exciting and visually stimulating sculpture will be displayed in the heart of the historic Victoria Park community at the new and beautiful arriVa development.

Calgary developer John Torode’s passionate support for the arts is a key value held by the TORODE Group of Companies. The company’s approach to the arts is to embrace it in many ways – public art, performing arts, art exhibitions, and art integrated in the design of every property.

“It is not about just supporting the arts, it is about incorporating art in everything we do,” said John Torode, President of the TORODE Group of Companies. “Today we unveil a spectacular public art sculpture and we are reinforcing our embracement of the Calgary arts scene.”

The sculpture, a 500-metre-long metal line drawing entitled HALF K, was selected as the successful finalist of a two-stage, international invitational competition. A jury of renowned arts professionals received and reviewed submissions from around the world. “Lexier’s powerful concept was selected not only for its artistic brilliance,” said Robin Murphy, TORODE’s Director, Marketing and Public Art, “but also for its interaction and dialogue with the buildings on the arriVa site – their physical presence, their inhabitants, and the distinct architecture that marries sleek modernity with extraordinary history.”

Today’s announcement is the first of many other major diverse art initiatives the companies will showcase. “The unwrapping of this wonderful piece of public art is an example of what is yet to come,” noted Torode. “We are thrilled to have you share in our uncompromising passion for art and design, and invite you to celebrate and experience the Art of TORODE as we reveal new artistic expressions in the coming months.”
