NEW YORK.-From April 8-24, artnet Online Auctions will offer 50 works of art by 30 renowned modern and contemporary artists including Roberto Matta, Fernando Botero, Jesus Rafael Soto and Rufino Tamayo. This sale marks the expansion of artnet Online Auctions to include works by Latin American artists in its continuous, year-round auctions.
Leading the sale is a group of nine works by Chilean artist Roberto Matta. Highlights include Untitled, a 1969 work in crayon, pastel and pencil on paper (estimate: $30,000-35,000) and Le roi et la reine (1960-70s), a gilt bronze sculpture, signed an number stamped (estimate: $9,500-12,000). Also included in the group is Les Damnations, a portfolio of 63 pages and 11 etchings and aquatints, signed by the artist (estimate: $6,500-7,500).
The sale also features three outstanding works by Columbian artist Fernando Botero. Dancers, 2004 is a bronze sculpture of two nude dancers, signed and numbered on the plinth (estimate: $380,000-480,000). This group also includes two works on paper, Dancer, 2007 ($70,000-85,000) and Pas de Deux ($70,000-85,000).
Other sale highlights include the painting Sin Titulo, by Mexican surrealist Arturo Elizondo (estimate: $9,500-15,000); and Anello, 1971, a mixed media work in metal, chrome and nylon thread by Venezuelan artist Jesus Rafael Soto (estimate: $55,000-75,000). Rounding out the sale is a remarkable group of prints, multiples and works on paper by artists including Wifredo Lam, Rufino Tamayo, and Francisco Zúñiga.
