TEMPE, AZ.- This reception is honoring Mrs. Jessie Smith of Kingston , Canada , as she reveals her selections from the ASU Art Museum collection. The reception will also mark the conclusion of Mrs. Smith and her Canadian tour groups’ 3-week visit to Arizona.

In Jessie Smith’s own words: On February 20, 2008, my husband Alastair and I together with our Tour leader, Chuck Simpson, went to the Arizona State University Art Museum where we could roam about to view the exhibits. We were told they had an artist in residence so we chose to watch or meet this person.

In a large space we found Josh Greene as that artist sitting on a raised platform before a desk with a laptop e-mailing his wife in San Francisco for ideas of how to fill the space. On his desk sat an apple and I immediately thought of art and possibly a still life image in watercolor. But this apple was just a part of his lunch!

Josh and I exchanged ideas of how much fun it would be to fill this stark white-washed area. My husband and I carried on viewing the exhibits in the museum and before we left Josh asked if I would be interested in working with him. I hesitated and agreed providing he was aware I have only volunteered in rental art gallery capacity. I have tried to learn to appreciate the value of art following a History of Art course in college in the 1940’s! Life and travel have exposed me to international galleries and as of a week ago, Josh Greene.
