$100,000 Grant to Prospect.1 from the Warhol Foundation

NEW ORLEANS.-U.S. Biennial, Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of a $100,000 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts toward the realization of Prospect.1 New Orleans, the largest international art biennial ever organized in the United States, launching November 1, 2008. The Warhol Foundation joins a committed group of individual donors and board members, led by Toby Devan Lewis, who have provided funding for the project, which is currently in fundraising mode to secure the $2.9 million needed to mount the exhibition. Plans are also underway for the Gala Opening Ball on October 31, 2008, which will help to underwrite the costs of presenting Prospect.1.

Under the direction of founder and chief curator Dan Cameron, the biennial will feature the work of 75 international artists in some 100,000 square feet of exhibition space throughout the city. Over the course of its eleven-week run, the biennial will draw attention, creative energy, and economic activity to the City of New Orleans, a historic regional artistic center, and the struggling Gulf Region. Prospect.1 is organized under the auspices of U.S. Biennial, Inc., a non-profit organization based in New York with offices in New Orleans that was established in January 2007. Its first project will be Prospect.1.
