EAST LANSING, MI.-As part of Michigan State Universitys campus-wide Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration, Kresge Art Museum will exhibit newly acquired works by Detroit artist Tyree Guyton (born 1955), as well as significant examples by other African-American artists from KAM's collection. These works will be on display through the end of January.
The most recent Guyton acquisitions are two mixed media assemblages on board, Revelations, and Blue, both created in 1993. Other works by Guyton on view are Twelve Trees #6 and Lunch Box, both purchased by the KAM in 2002.
Also on display are photographs by James Van der Zee, Dawoud Bey, and Richard J. Brown, and screenprints by Faith Ringgold and Howard Mildred. Well-known African-American sculptor John Scotts sculpture, Doorway for the Blues, part of the museums permanent collection, is also currently on view.
