NAPLES, FL.- The Naples Art Association invites artists to submit one or two 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional works for possible inclusion in Phoenix Rising, an exhibition of artwork created from recycled materials and found objects. The exhibition will be on view admission-free at The von Liebig Art Center, 585 Park St., from Jan. 25 to Feb. 27. There is no jury fee, but Naples Art Association membership is required. Artwork receiving is Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Jan. 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. For more information, visit naplesart.org or call 239-262-6517 x106.
Recycling is the reprocessing of materials into something new and includes the actions of reclaiming and altering. A found object is a natural or discarded object found by chance and held to have aesthetic value. Artists known for working with found object constructions include Joseph Cornell, Marcel Duchamp, Pablo Picasso, Robert Rauschenberg, Pablo Cano and Kurt Schwitters.
Sharon Kenny, chairperson of the City of Naples, Public Art Advisory Committee since its inception in 2001, will serve as juror. Kenny holds a master of arts degree in art history from Washington University in St. Louis, teaches art history at the FGCU Renaissance Academy, and is a member of the Florida Association of Public Art Administrators.
