NEW YORK.-From December 5th, 2007 through January 19th, 2008, Lori Bookstein Fine Art will present BIG DRAWING, a five-person group show featuring the work of Sharon Horvath, Graham Nickson, Karlis Rekevics, Michael Volonakis and James Weingrod. Monumental works by these five artists will be comprised of traditional drawings on paper done in ink, acrylic and charcoal, with the exception of Weingrod's three-dimensional wall relief out of clear Plexiglas.

SHARON HORVATH lives and works in New York City. She received her BFA in 1980 from Cooper Union in New York. In 1985, she received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art, Philadelphia and was awarded a Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture scholarship. Since 1987, she has shown her paintings and drawings in solo exhibitions at Cava Gallery, Philadelphia; Zoe Gallery, Boston; Jessica Berwind Gallery, Philadelphia; Victoria Monroe Gallery, New York; The Drawing Room, East Hampton; Tibor de Nagy, New York; and Victoria Munroe Fine Art, Boston. She has participated in group exhibitions across the country as well as abroad in Belgium, Qatar and Poland. Horvath's numerous honors include the Edwin Palmer Memorial Prize for Painting from the National Academy Museum (2004), a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant for painting (1994 and 1997) and the Rome Prize, Fellowship in Painting from the American Academy in Rome (1996). In 1995, the artist was a Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation "Space Program" participant.

GRAHAM NICKSON was born in England and completed his BA at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts and his Master's degree at the Royal College of Art in London in 1972. After a three year stay in Italy he moved to New York City in 1976 where he has resided since. He has worked, traveled and exhibited extensively in the United States and abroad, and is the recipient of the Prix de Rome (1972-74), The Harkness Fellowship at Yale University (1976-78), the Guggenheim Fellowship (1989), and the Ingram Merrill Fellowship (1993). Recent solo exhibitions include shows at the Naples Museum of Art, FL; the Boca Raton Museum of Art, FL; Salander-O'Reilly Galleries, NY; and the Lillehammer Art Museum in Norway. His work is in the permanent collections of many institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; The Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, MA; The Albright Knox Gallery, NY; the Neuberger Museum of Art, NY; the Frye Art Museum, Seattle; The Lillehammer Art Museum, Norway; and the Boca Raton Museum of Art, FL. He has been a faculty member and Dean of the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture since 1988 and is the originator of the internationally renowned "Drawing Marathon."

KARLIS REKEVICS was born in Harogate, England, and grew up in Rome, Baghdad, and Seattle, Washington. He studied at Seattle University, receiving his BA in Humanities (1981-84) and Art (1985-86) before attending the New York Studio School (1992-97). His most recent solo exhibitions have included shows at the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria, New York; the Sculpture Center, Long Island City; Hopkins Center for the Arts, Dartmouth College, Hanover; Wooster Art Space, New York; Locks Gallery, Philadelphia; the New York Studio School; and a sculpture show at Lori Bookstein Fine Art earlier this year. Awards and residencies have included a Triangle Art Residency (2004), Emma Lake Workshop (2003), The Vermont Studio Center Residency (2000), and a Triangle Art Workshop (1998). Rekevics' sculpture installations were featured as the cover story in the July/August issue of Sculpture magazine this past year.

MICHAEL VOLONAKIS lives and works in New York City. He graduated from Pratt University with a BFA in 1974. Volonakis has been the recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Emerging Artist's Grant (1982) and the American Academy of Arts and Letters Hassam Purchase (2001), and he was a Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation "Space Program" participant in 2004-05. The artist's exhibition history includes shows at the New York Public Library; the Art Resources Transfer Gallery, New York; the State Theater Center for the Arts, Easton, PA; Lori Bookstein Fine Art, New York; Pierogi 2000, New York; the American Academy of Arts and Letters, New York; the Sixteen Beaver Street Group, New York; and Art in General, New York.

JAMES WEINGROD was born in Providence, RI. In 2004 he graduated from Brown University with a BA in Visual Arts with Honors and was the recipient of the Roberta Jocelyn Award for Excellence in Art. Since the spring of 2006 he has been earning his MFA at Hunter College. Between 2000 and 2005, Weingrod also worked as an artist assistant for sculptors Frank Stella and Bryan Hunt.
