| Skin, Surfaces and Shadows a New Artist Book |
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA.-Skin, Surfaces and Shadows is the new artist book in limited edition by Tommaso Durante. It has a triptych structure with text by the leading Australian poet Chris Wallace-Crabbe.
Skin, Surfaces and Shadows was created by Tommaso Durante in 2004 during his stay in Bundanon (gifted to the Australian people by Arthur & Yvonne Boyd - South East Australia) as international artist in residence and it was enriched during the artists stay in Broome (Western Australia) in 2005. On that occasion he collected the raw materials that were subsequently wrought to develop the actual bookwork.
On the edge of the artistic practice and philosophical inspiration, Skin, Surfaces and Shadows transgresses the limits by pushing the boundaries of art, craft and design and by combining digital technologies with traditional techniques and materials.
With the wrought images and design of the artist and the sculptured words of the poet, Skin, Surfaces and Shadows tries to explore the surfaces of things and the figurative dividing line of the shadow, with no fear to run the risk of beauty as a side effect.
Once again a journey for the artist, but this time less autobiographical than the previous Terra Australis and more philosophical, inspirational and thoughtful.
