LONDON.- The Photographs sale at Christie’s London realised £1,474,275 and was sold 78% by value. The top lot was Manuel Alvarez Bravo’s El Ensueño, which realised £126,500, setting a new World Auction Record for the Artist.
Yuka Yamaji, Head of Photographs, Christie’s London said:“Christie’s tightly edited sale of fine photographs by classic and modern masters achieved a strong result, setting nine world auction records including the top lot of the sale, Manuel Alvarez Bravo’s El Ensueño, which realized £126,500. A notable world auction record was also set for Helen Levitt’s New York (Three Kids on a Stoop), which sold for £29,300. The sale attracted competitive international bidding in the room, on the telephone and online, with the top lot selling to a European collector online through Christie’s LIVE™. We look forward to our next sale of Photographs at Christie’s South Kensington on Wednesday 21 November 2007 at 2pm. ”
