ATHENS.-The Athens Biennial aims to function within an international network of large-scale periodic contemporary art events, while providing the framework and the support for a variety of approaches.

The 1st Athens Biennial 2007 Destroy Athens will be held from 10 September until 18 November at Technopolis. The 1st Athens Biennial includes a series of parallel exhibitions and events, closely related to the theme of the main exhibition Destroy Athens. The parallel events will run throughout the duration of the main exhibition and will be presented in the surrounding area of Metaxourgio.

Quite apart from the peak of its activities, which is the biennial exhibition, the Athens Biennial aims to contribute to the development of artistic production and critical thought within the Athens artistic community, by implementing the AB Projects, such as the bilingual online magazine a. the athens contemporary art review and the online radio station ArtwaveRadio, by organizing smaller exhibitions, events and conferences and publishing books. Within the framework of willingness for collaboration with other initiatives for the development of cultural exchange, the Athens Biennial has joined forces with the Istanbul and Lyon Biennials (Tres Bienn). Furthermore, it has introduced the programme of the Friends of the Athens Biennial, as means of engaging as many art lovers from Greece and abroad as possible in the process of preparation.
