MADRID, SPAIN.- Rodrigo Uría, president of the Royal Board of the Museo del Prado, 66, died in Croatia while on vacation. He had presided the Prado board since 2004. Rodrigo Uría was a lawyer son of Rodrigo Uría González who was also a lawyer and won the Prince of Asturias Social Sciences Award in 1990. He worked for his father’s law firm since the 1940’s. He was a partner-director of the law firm Uría y Menéndez. He was part of important operations in this firm.

Miguel Zugaza, Prado Museum Director wrote about the death of Rodrigo Uría. He wrote: “It is hard to tell about a surprising and hard news…The death of Rodrigo Uría is the end of a life lived with overwhelming passion, of a brilliant professional career as a lawyer and businessman and as a cultural promoter. He gave his generous dedication to his dear Museo del Prado for more than 20 years. Rodrigo was very proud when he was named a member of the Prado board, and remembered it as the most important compensation given to him by minister Javier Solana for his collaboration in making the Thyssen Museum a reality helping the state recover Goya’s Marquesa de Santa Cruz which is now in El Prado.
