Bryan Ida Seed Exhibition Opens
Bryan Ida, Generation One, 2007, Oil on panel, 48” x 41”.

CULVER CITY, CA.-Bandini Art presents Bryan Ida Seed, on view July 7 – August 18, 2007. Gestural dashes swarm through vibrant meshes of color in Bryan Ida’s new paintings, on show at Bandini Art, Culver City from July 7. The new works combine complex formal structures with a sense of movement and freedom, unifying the competition apparent in his previous work between fluid abstraction and tightly worked detail.

Using a white ground as a source of luminosity, Ida layers up to sixty applications of paint to achieve an intensity of color, volume and depth. Weaving through this ground, finely rendered abstract figures suggestive of fishes, birds or ribbons rise and retreat. The paintings seem to evolve before our eyes.

Ida previously studied musical composition and his paintings’ inherent rhythms recall pieces of music. In painting he has found the freedom to improvise, letting the structure grow from loosely apprehended shapes, connecting disparate elements until the work becomes complete, echoing the balance and wholeness he perceives in nature.
