New-York Historical Society to Celebrate Nation's Birthday



NEW YORK.- The New-York Historical Society will celebrate America’s birthday with a day-long family celebration that will include a display of Revolutionary-era documents and artifacts, roving actors portraying Revolutionary founding fathers George Washington, Ben Franklin and Frederick Douglass, story telling, and family portraits, on Wednesday, July 4, from 10 AM-5 PM at the New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West at 77th Street. Free admission for all visitors wearing red, white and blue.

The day’s celebration will include: actors portraying Revolutionary heroes; complimentary sketches of visitors depicting them in Revolutionary-era garb; and storytelling performances by master storyteller Jonathan Kruk sharing short stories circa 1776 at 1 PM & 3 PM.

The celebration will continue through July 8 with a special exhibition featuring a rare Hugh Gaine printing of the Declaration of Independence; a Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington; Washington 。ヌs cot from the campaign at Valley Forge; and the ceremonial chair used for his inauguration in New York City as first president of the United States.
