Destination: Geodecity - Abandon Your Old Homes and Travel
Destination: Geodecity.

NOTTINGHAM, UK.- Reactor invite participants to sign up and become citizens of Destination: Geodecity, a practical project that focuses on constructing the ideal ‘future city’. Citizens will be involved in visioning their utopia, whilst simultaneously building the first stages of its development. Rather than the vague, impossible dream of fiction, here is a coherent program for action that can be achieved in a weekend.

Destination: Geodecity involves a lived experience, participants will eat and sleep, work and play within the environment they create. Travelling from Nottingham, Leicester and Derby these pioneers will be offered the chance of a fresh start, transforming a rural Leicestershire site into their collective vision for a utopian city of the future. A bold step forward, this is the first Reactor project to involve its audience in an overnight stay. Sheltered by the new homes they have constructed, participants will be immersed in their new world for over 24 hours.

Whilst the participants themselves will develop the exact form this new city takes, one thing is already known; the geodesic dome – classic futurist design of architect and visionary R. Buckminster Fuller – will form the building block of this future.

Exploring a range of diverse influences, from present day social issues, alternative lifestyles and experimental communities, to sci-fi utopias, scout camps and survivalism; citizens will build upon the close working relationships developed during the construction of the domes and using future visioning exercises will reach their collective vision for this template of the future.

After the initial weekend of action, the abandoned utopia will live on through the archaeology left for others to discover. This will be advertised as an off-site sculpture for people to visit in their own time (further information to follow). In addition, a short documentary film made over the weekend with the help of the participants will be displayed through partner organisations.

Transport will leave from city centre locations in Derby, Leicester and Nottingham at 13:00 on Saturday 4th August and drop back at 14:00 on Sunday 5th August. Due to the overnight stay this event is for over 18’s only. Attendance is free, but booking is essential.
