QUEENS, N.Y.-The Queens Museum of Art will feature Il Lee: Ballpoint Drawings, on view July 19 - September 30, 2007. On the heels of his first major museum survey exhibition, the work of Korean-born, Brooklyn-based artist Il Lee returns from San Jose, CA to New York for a summertime solo exhibition at the Queens Museum of Art. With ballpoint pen, Lee creates high contrast images in blue and black ink that range in size from large scale to intimate. His forms, though abstract, reflect the complex patterns of the natural world. Influenced by traditional sumi-e ink painting and calligraphy, Lee’s work remains decidedly contemporary; his unorthodox materials and distinctive style have garnered him audiences worldwide. In addition to early experimental studies and recent works on canvas, Il Lee: Ballpoint Drawings will feature a site-specific installation and two new works on paper. The exhibition will be curated by Joanna Kleinberg, guest curator. Il Lee: Ballpoint Drawings is made possible with the support of the Korean Cultural Service of New York and Art Projects International (API). This exhibition is funded in part by the Korean Cultural Service New York.
