Hasenkamp opens new art storage facility in the Frankfurt area
New facility offers 12,000 square metres of storage space for art and cultural artefacts.

FRANKFURT.- Hasenkamp has commenced operations at its new art storage facility in the Frankfurt area. The site offers around 12,000 square metres of storage space and 500 square metres of office space. Around 50 staff members work there. Hasenkamp is thus continuing its long-standing presence in the Rhine-Main region. The Frankfurt branch was previously based in Kelsterbach. With the move to Mörfelden-Walldorf, it is moving into a new building designed specifically to meet the requirements of art logistics.

“Frankfurt and the Rhine-Main region are of great importance to our national and international activities. With this new site, we are making a long-term investment in additional capacity, modern infrastructure and the further development of our art logistics,” says Thomas Schneider, managing partner of the Hasenkamp Group.

More space for art and cultural heritage

The new depot is aimed at museums, galleries, collections and public and private institutions. It offers climate-controlled spaces for the short- and long-term storage of individual objects and entire collections. There is also a showroom and rooms for workshop and restoration work. Hasenkamp brings together its core art logistics services at the new facility, including domestic and international art transport, object-specific packaging, exhibition and collection moves, installation and storage.

Geothermal and photovoltaic systems

The building services are designed to meet the specific requirements of art and cultural heritage. A geothermal system provides heating and cooling for the storage areas. A photovoltaic system generates electricity on site. The combination of both technologies enables stable storage conditions whilst ensuring energy-efficient operation.

“Art storage facilities are used for decades and, at the same time, place high demands on stable climatic conditions. Energy efficiency and sustainable building services must therefore be part of the planning from the very outset,” explains Thomas Schneider.

Hasenkamp also prioritised the responsible use of resources during construction. Material from the demolition of the existing building was processed directly on site and reused in the new building.

Investment in a European storage network

The new Frankfurt site in Mörfelden-Walldorf forms part of the Hasenkamp Group’s long-term expansion strategy. In recent years, the company has expanded its network of specialised art storage facilities in cities including Amsterdam, Brussels, Vienna and Cologne. In total, the group has invested more than 100 million euros in modern storage infrastructure for art and cultural assets.

With the new building in the Rhine-Main region, Hasenkamp is continuing along this path. The site combines additional storage capacity with proximity to Frankfurt Airport and the region’s main transport routes. This provides museums, collections and cultural institutions with further options for the long-term storage of artworks, for exhibition projects and for temporary relocation during refurbishments or collection moves.
