100% sold: Henry Tang's legendary wine cellar leads Christie's anniversary milestone in Hong Kong
In 2026, Christie's, the world-leading art and luxury business, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in Asia.

HONG KONG.- Christie's global celebration of the 60th Anniversary of its Wine and Spirits Department commenced on 10 October 2026 with 'The Cellar of the Hon. Henry Tang'. Over 13 hours of competitive bidding from collectors around the world, this dedicated single-owner auction was 100% sold, achieving a total of HK$50,212,875 / US$6,398,544, with a hammer total of 151% above the low estimate. Leading the sale was a magnum of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti 1971, which realised HK$875,000 / US$111,500, more than 219% above its low estimate.

Renowned for the breadth and depth of Mr Henry Tang's collection, which spans many of the world's most celebrated wine regions and producers, the sale attracted enthusiastic participation from both seasoned collectors and new connoisseurs, resulting in 80% of lots selling above their high estimates. Outstanding performances were seen across Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne and Rhône, including sought-after wines from Henri Jayer, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Leroy, underscoring the collection's strong appeal among collectors worldwide. Almost half of the buyers were Millennials and Gen Z, and among them, close to 70% were new buyers, reflecting the continued appeal of fine wine collecting across generations. Following the success of 'The Cellar of the Hon. Henry Tang', Christie's global celebrations marking the 60th Anniversary of its Wine & Spirits Department continue in New York on 23 October with 'The Distinguished Cellar of an American Connoisseur', before moving to London and Hong Kong.

Mr Henry Tang remarked, "Collecting wine has been one of the great passions of my life, and I am truly thrilled by the tremendous response from collectors around the world to this sale. I am equally grateful to see these bottles continue their journey with fellow enthusiasts who share a love of wine and an appreciation for the people and stories behind every bottle. This collection has brought me immense enjoyment, lasting friendships and countless memorable experiences over the years, and I hope these wines will continue to be enjoyed, shared and appreciated for many years to come, bringing their new owners the same pleasure they have brought me."

Adam Bilbey, Global Head of Wine and Spirits, Christie's, commented, "We are delighted by the outstanding result achieved for 'The Cellar of the Hon. Henry Tang', which was 100% sold and attracted enthusiastic participation from collectors across Asia, the Americas and Europe. It has been a tremendous privilege to work with Mr Tang on this landmark sale and to bring to market, with his trust and partnership, a collection built over more than five decades with extraordinary knowledge, care and passion. The strong response from collectors is a testament to both the exceptional quality and provenance of the wines and the esteem in which Mr Tang is held within the global wine community. As the opening sale of Christie's Wine & Spirits Department's 60th Anniversary celebrations, this result is a fitting way to mark these important milestones. We look forward to continuing our celebrations in New York and London in the months ahead."

In 2026, Christie's, the world-leading art and luxury business, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in Asia. Over the last four decades, Christie's has established itself as Asia's leading house, orchestrating many of the region's most historic and record-breaking sales of exceptional objects and collections, driving region-wide expansion, and pioneering digital innovations that have redefined the way Asian collectors connect with and experience the industry. To celebrate this milestone, Christie's is presenting a year-long programme of art and luxury sales, exhibitions and events across the region.
