NEW YORK, NY.- Cavalier Gallery will mark its 40th anniversary this fall with three exhibitions at its West 57th Street location, bringing together photography, sculpture and contemporary realist painting in a program spanning October through December.

The anniversary comes four decades after the gallery began as a small operation in Stamford, Connecticut. It has since expanded to locations in New York, Greenwich, Nantucket and Palm Beach. After establishing earlier Manhattan spaces on Madison Avenue and East 72nd Street, Cavalier opened its flagship at 3 West 57th Street in 2013 and has also developed a public art program placing large-scale sculpture in locations around Manhattan.

The fall season begins with Harry Benson: Milestones, opening October 5 and continuing through November 6. The exhibition surveys the career of photographer Harry Benson through images of musicians, celebrities and political figures, combining some of his best-known photographs with works that have not previously been exhibited.

Benson served as the Beatles’ official photographer from 1964 to 1966, documenting the group during the years when Beatlemania transformed them into an international phenomenon. His later career took him across politics, entertainment and world events, and he photographed every U.S. president from Dwight D. Eisenhower through Joe Biden.

The exhibition will also touch on Benson’s personal life, including his 59-year marriage to his wife, Gigi. A celebratory evening with Harry and Gigi Benson is scheduled for October 15 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Two days after the Benson exhibition opens, Cavalier will present a memorial exhibition devoted to Bruno Lucchesi, the Italian-American sculptor who died in New York in July at the age of 99, only weeks before his 100th birthday.

Bruno Lucchesi.

On view from October 7 through November 6, the Bruno Lucchesi Memorial Exhibition will bring together sculptures from across the artist’s seven-decade career, including works in bronze, terracotta and marble.

Lucchesi made New York his home for more than 60 years and became known for figurative sculpture grounded in close observation of the human body and everyday life. His work entered major American museum collections, including those of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum and Brooklyn Museum.

An opening reception on October 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., will be attended by Lucchesi’s wife, Ann Rosow-Lucchesi, as well as family members and friends.

Cavalier’s fall program will then shift to contemporary painting with Paul G. Oxborough: Recent Works, running from November 12 through December 12.

The exhibition will feature more than 25 new paintings by Oxborough, whose realist practice centers on the effects of light, atmosphere and human presence. Executed in oil, the works often transform familiar interiors and social spaces through close observation and carefully modulated illumination.

Among the works on view will be Musso and Frank, a 42-by-60-inch oil on linen. The exhibition continues Oxborough’s interest in places shaped as much by mood as by architecture, where figures, reflections and artificial light become central elements of the composition.

Visitors will be able to meet the artist during the opening reception on November 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Taken together, the three exhibitions underline the breadth of Cavalier Gallery’s program as it enters its fifth decade. Benson’s photographs trace moments of 20th- and 21st-century cultural history, Lucchesi’s sculpture reflects a lifetime devoted to the figure, and Oxborough’s paintings bring that observational tradition into the present.

All three exhibitions are free and will be presented on the fourth floor of Cavalier Gallery at 3 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
