MALAGA.- Museo Picasso Málaga and Fundación Unicaja have renewed and expanded their collaboration, strengthening support for research into Pablo Picasso while also joining forces around one of the museum’s major exhibitions this fall, MUNCH-PICASSO.

The new agreement continues Fundación Unicaja’s support for the museum’s Center for Studies and Research, which has become an important platform for scholarly work focused on Picasso, his legacy and the wider artistic and cultural contexts surrounding his career.

The partnership was formally renewed by José M. Domínguez, president of Fundación Unicaja, and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, president of the Executive Council and second vice president of the Board of Trustees of Museo Picasso Málaga.

The museum’s research center develops specialized projects, seminars and academic meetings, while also working with universities and cultural institutions. Part of its mission is to make documentary collections and digital resources more accessible, encouraging new approaches to Picasso’s work and creating opportunities for exchange among scholars.

With Fundación Unicaja’s renewed backing, the center will continue to expand those activities and reinforce its role as a hub for Picasso studies. The collaboration also reflects a broader effort by the museum to connect academic research with public programming, making scholarship accessible beyond specialist circles.

Alongside that research partnership, the two institutions have also reached a new agreement linked to MUNCH-PICASSO, one of the key exhibitions on Museo Picasso Málaga’s fall calendar.

The exhibition will bring Edvard Munch and Pablo Picasso into direct dialogue for the first time in a presentation of this scale. More than 100 paintings, prints and drawings will be assembled to examine connections between the two artists, including shared themes, artistic concerns and points of influence.





Though Munch and Picasso belonged to different generations and developed distinct visual languages, both artists repeatedly returned to subjects such as love, desire, anxiety, isolation and mortality. The exhibition will explore those parallels while also considering the ways each artist responded to the rapidly changing cultural climate of modern Europe.

For Museo Picasso Málaga, the collaboration with Fundación Unicaja now extends across both scholarship and exhibition-making, two areas that increasingly overlap in the museum’s programming.

By supporting the Center for Studies and Research while also contributing to MUNCH-PICASSO, Fundación Unicaja is helping the museum pursue both long-term academic work and large-scale public exhibitions.

The renewed agreement comes as Museo Picasso Málaga continues to expand the scope of its research activities and international collaborations, while using exhibitions such as MUNCH-PICASSO to place Picasso’s work in conversation with other major figures of modern art.
