VILNIUS.- Tomas Martišauskis is a sculptor and art researcher whose work explores the intersection of sculpture, digital technology, and conceptual thinking. The artist is interested in translating one plastic and semantic whole into another, perceiving an object as a changing collection of data, image, and matter. Employing 3D scanning, modeling, and coding systems, the author transforms physical objects into digital sculptures, textual or audio formats and newly materialized forms. In his practice, authorship is partially delegated to technological logic, while matter, image, and code functions as equal elements of contemporary reality.

The exhibition “Spills” continues the artist’s ongoing research into stability, recycling, and sustainability, approaching sculpture not as a finished object, but as a dynamic and constantly changing process. In the context of rapidly shifting technological and social conditions, the exhibition raises the question of how the notions of stability and permanence might be reconsidered. The relationship to the work as an endless, fluid material turns the exhibition into a space in which elements are brought together without a rigid hierarchy, allowing new meanings to emerge. Each “Spill” in the exhibition becomes a metaphor for change – a body composed of elements from the past and its own future forms. The work’s fluidity and incompleteness, as well as its capacity to be remade and adapted to a new context, become principles through which the artist challenges the traditional static nature of sculpture and invites the viewer to encounter the work through pre-linguistic sensation that has not yet been recognized.

This idea takes shape in the exhibition through the physical processes of sculptural production and material transformation. The sculptures on display bring together fragments of earlier works, while casting molds, vertical structures and the flow of liquid material shape their plastic expression, creating a sense of movement. In this way, material transformation and the temporary stabilization of form in the gallery become a starting point for reconsidering the changes of the present, in which the boundary between constant renewal and adaptation becomes increasingly difficult to define.





Tomas Martišauskis (b. 1977) graduated from Vilnius Academy of Arts with a master’s degree in sculpture in 2006 and completed his Doctorate there in 2020. Since 2000 he has held solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. The artist has received art grants and taken part in international residencies, including at Nida Art Colony and Dusseldorf, Germany. Since 2007 he teaches sculpture in Justinas Vienožinskis Art School in Vilnius, and in 2013 he became a member of the Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artist’s Association.
