POTSDAM.- Originally opened as a terrace restaurant in 1977, DAS MINSK now operates as a museum of modern and contemporary art. Its history as a place of hospitality, exchange, and social life continues to shape the building to this day, while its architecture, historical use, and transformation from a restaurant to a museum create a unique space for artistic, culinary, and intellectual dialogue. Drawing on the venue’s history and present moment, the newly launched Culinary Residency program at DAS MINSK Kunsthaus in Potsdam situates the building as a place where art, food, memory, and the public intersect.

The Residency: cooking as an artistic and cultural practice

The Culinary Residency invites chefs, artists, food designers, and those with interdisciplinary practices to explore the history of the former terrace restaurant or new, contemporary forms of communal dining. We are seeking proposals that treat cooking as a cultural and artistic practice, engaging with themes such as community, memory, hospitality, nutrition, and regional tradition, alongside agricultural science, ecology, and the future of food. During the residency, the recipient will develop their own project and present their work as part of the museum’s public program. The goal is to open up new perspectives on art, food, and social issues, and to actively engage visitors. The residency offers space to develop new formats and culinary projects at the intersection of art, cooking, food, culture, sustainability, and social issues — understanding the museum, as a place of exchange and encounter.

Apply until: September 19, 2026, 11:59pm
Duration of the residency: April through July 2027

Possible formats include, among others

• developing a seasonal menu or signature dish for the museum Cafbar HEDWIG
• public cooking evenings or supper clubs
• cooking workshops and classes
• communal dining and participatory formats
• artistic or performative dinners
• projects on regional, historical, or sustainable food cultures
• interdisciplinary collaborations with artists, researchers, or local initiatives

The examples listed above are intended to serve as suggestions. We very much welcome your own original ideas and experimental approaches. We particularly welcome projects that offer new perspectives on the history of the institution and foster dialogue between research, art, and the public, as well as projects that combine culinary arts with artistic research.

For the duration of the residency, the recipient will receive

• a stipend of 1,000 euros per month
• reimbursement of travel expenses associated with the start of the residency
• a furnished apartment
• a Deutschlandticket
• the possibility of production costs being covered for the submitted project proposal
• access to exhibitions and relevant work areas of the museum
• support from the museum team in the development and realization of projects

Application

The application should include:
• a short biography
• a portfolio or samples of work
• a brief description of the project idea (max. 2 pages)
• a cost estimate for the project (max. 1 page)

We particularly welcome applications from people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and disciplines. DAS MINSK will support the selected recipient with any organizational matters related to entering Germany.

Family members are welcome to join, and accomodation for up to three people will be provided. However, we cannot cover any travel or living expenses for accompanying family members.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm on September 19, 2026, as a PDF file (max. 10 pages, 5 MB) via email to residency@dasminsk.de.
