BRISBANE.- Mitchell Fine Art is strengthening Brisbane's connection with Indonesia's contemporary art scene through a new exhibition featuring Yogyakarta-based artists Gilang Fradika and Indra Dodi from 18 August.

Following the debut exhibition of Indonesian artist Arwin Hidayat in 2025 and the Gallery Director Mike Mitchell’s visits to Indonesian art studios, the gallery is pleased to present a showcase of two Yogyakarta based artists – Gilang Fradika and Indra Dodi.

"Indonesia has one of Southeast Asia's most exciting contemporary art scenes, yet Australian audiences rarely have the opportunity to experience these artists firsthand," says Gallery Director Mike Mitchell.

“Yogyakarta is widely regarded as Indonesia's contemporary art capital, and after visiting studios we wanted to build a stronger cultural dialogue by introducing these remarkable artists to Brisbane audiences."

Description of image

Gilang Fradika is a contemporary artist known for richly layered paintings that combine elements of nature, anatomy, folklore and surreal imagery.

Indra Dodi creates vibrant, expressive paintings that combine bold figures, handwritten text and symbolic imagery to explore the beauty and complexity of everyday life.

The exhibition continues the gallery's commitment to contemporary Indonesian art and includes new works on paper by Arwin Hidayat, who will be represented by Mitchell Fine Art at the Melbourne Art Fair in February 2027.

Although their artistic styles differ, both artists explore contemporary social themes through imaginative visual storytelling, offering Australian audiences a fresh perspective on Indonesia's vibrant contemporary art scene.

The exhibition is showing from 18 August – 5 September 2026 at Mitchell Fine Art in Arthur St, Fortitude Valley Brisbane. There will be no opening events for this exhibition.

Mitchell Fine Art is open six days a week; Monday to Friday 10am - 5.30pm and Saturday 10am - 5pm, with parking available onsite.
