HONG KONG.- The Hong Kong Palace Museum unveiled its latest thematic exhibition “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: A Day in the City ─ An Experimental Study of Things Across Time” (“A Day in the City”).

Bridging cultural heritage and contemporary life

Bringing together nine established and emerging Hong Kong artists across diverse disciplines, “A Day in the City” creates a remarkable space for dialogue between the majestic grandeur of the Forbidden City and the vibrancy of contemporary Hong Kong. Bridging Chinese heritage and contemporary art, the exhibition invites visitors on a journey across time to discover how historical wisdom and traditions continue to resonate in modern life. Through experimental artistic expression, it reimagines cultural heritage for the contemporary city with renewed vitality.

A centrepiece of the exhibition is a participatory artistic space dedicated to public workshops that empower visitors to become co-creators. Led by emerging local artists of diverse specialties, these sessions transform the gallery into an inclusive platform for creative collaboration, cross-generational exchange, and community engagement.

A multi-disciplinary cultural dialogue among nine Hong Kong artists

Curated by Guest Curator of the HKPM, Grace Cheng, the exhibition features works by nine Hong Kong artists across painting, sculpture, and multimedia art. Featuring both established and emerging voices, the exhibition showcases the breadth of contemporary perspectives, with each artist reinterpreting traditional and modern cultural elements through their unique artistic language and approach. The participating artists include:

• Kasing Lung, creator of the iconic collectible Labubu;
• Seth Hon, multimedia artist;
• Charlotte Lui, illustrator;
• Tsang Hing Ling, visual artist;
• Kila Cheung, painter and sculptor;
• Li Chi Tak, comic illustrator;
• Yau Kwok Keung, visual artist;
• Benny To, artist;
• Fung Lam, composer and artist;





“A Day in the City” (Gallery 7) is inspired by the HKPM’s thematic exhibition “From Dawn to Dusk: Life and Art in the Forbidden City” (Gallery 2; on view until 13 August 2026)—which follows in the footsteps of emperors and empresses to reveal the lives and art of the Forbidden City. Taking the Palace Museum collection as a springboard, the artists have transformed the gallery into a layered cityscape where the grand symphony of the Forbidden City meets the heartbeat of today’s Hong Kong.
