SEATTLE, WA.- The Frye Art Museum and Assembly Art Fair announced a new acquisition initiative that underscores their shared commitment to strengthening Seattle's contemporary arts ecosystem. As part of Assembly's inaugural edition, the Frye will acquire artwork from the fair for its permanent collection, supporting participating artists and galleries while expanding the museum's holdings of contemporary art.
The initiative reflects a collaborative investment in the region's creative community, establishing a direct connection between Seattle's gallery network, working artists, and one of the city's leading cultural institutions. The selected work will be featured in a Recent Acquisitions exhibition at the Frye during the museum's 75th anniversary season in spring/summer 2027.
Assembly reflects the collaborative spirit and creative energy that make Seattle's arts community so vital, said Jamilee Lacy, Executive Director of the Frye Art Museum. We are excited to support this new platform and celebrate the artists and galleries shaping contemporary culture in our region through an acquisition that will become part of the Frye's collection and be shared with our community for years to come.
The Frye's commitment to acquiring work from Assembly's inaugural edition is a signal that a fair built on relationships, thoughtfully developed gallery programs, and the depth and strength of the artists in our region is exactly the kind of event that institutions, collectors, and our community want to see, said Sarah Traver, Co-Founder of Assembly Art Fair. Galleries play an essential role in introducing artists and their work to the world, while museums ensure those works become part of our shared cultural record. We are honored that Assembly can help create that connection.
Founded by a coalition of Seattle galleries, Assembly Art Fair brings together leading regional and national galleries in an intimate, invitational format that foregrounds contemporary art, dialogue, and community. The Frye's participation reflects the museum's ongoing commitment to supporting artists of our time and fostering meaningful partnerships that expand opportunities for artists and audiences alike.
The acquisition will be selected by Faith Brower, Director and Curator of Collections at the Frye Art Museum, with preference given to work by a local artist or represented by a local gallery. The selected artwork will enter the Frye's permanent collection.
