NEW YORK, NY.- The Morgan Library & Museum announced the appointment of Francisco (Frank) Trujillo as the next Sherman Fairchild Director of the Thaw Conservation Center. Trujillo joined the Morgan as Associate Book Conservator in 2006 and was promoted to Drue Heinz Book Conservator in 2018. In his new role, Trujillo will oversee the long-term conservation of the collection and broaden the Morgan’s conservation-related programs. He succeeds Maria L. Fredericks, who led the center from 2018 until earlier this year.

During his time at the Morgan, Trujillo has worked on several important manuscripts and books in the collection including the Hours of Catherine of Cleves, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, and John Milton's Paradise Lost. He has written and published on the Morgan's fifteenth century Italian tarot cards and its Coptic bookbinding collection, as well as J. Pierpont Morgan's travels in Egypt. Trujillo is a co-curator along with Joshua O’Driscoll and Claire Gilman of the exhibition Tarot! Renaissance Symbols, Modern Visions, which will be on view at the Morgan June 26 through October 4, 2026.

“Following a competitive search, we are delighted to appoint Frank as the next Sherman Fairchild Director of the Thaw Conservation Center,” said Colin B. Bailey, Katharine J. Rayner Director. “Frank brings both a deep knowledge of our collection and an unwavering commitment to preserving and sharing it that will serve him well in this new leadership role.”

“I am happy to be selected as the Sherman Fairchild Director of the Thaw Conservation Center and hope to build on my predecessor Maria Fredericks' significant contributions to the Morgan,” said Trujillo. “I am excited for the opportunity to lead a talented department of conservators and art preparators to ensure the long-term availability of our wonderful and varied works of art for researchers and visitors to our exhibitions. I look forward to working in partnership with the administration, curators, registrars, and all staff members to continue the Morgan's commitment to the preservation, study, and interpretation of our dynamic collection.”

Trujillo holds a MSLIS with an Advanced Certificate in Conservation from the University of Texas at Austin and a BA from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to his time at the Morgan, Trujillo was a Preservation Specialist at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC; Mellon Conservator at The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, New York, NY; and Contract Conservator, Augustus C. Long Health Sciences Library, Columbia University, New York, NY. His research has focused on the materials and techniques of medieval manuscripts and historic binding structures, with a particular focus on the ninth and tenth century Coptic bookbinding collection at the Morgan.
