Building upon the success of last years auction, this year will see more than double the number of National Academicians donating works. With dozens of works in painting, drawing and other media made by National Academicians, the benefit auction is an important event that supports both the National Academy as an institution and its broader community of artists. Included works can be viewed by appointment at the National Academy during the two-week run of the auction.
Since its founding in 1825, the National Academy of Design has been inextricably linked with the development of art and architecture in America. At the core of its activities is the community of National Academicians: leading artists and architects who were elected by their peers in recognition of outstanding creative achievement. With over 2,400 Academicians elected since its founding, the National Academys history serves as a reflection of American art history itself. Since relocating to Chelsea in 2023, the National Academy has embarked upon a rigorous project aimed at reinventing its institutional, curatorial and programming visions. The benefit auction has become a core philanthropic event that brings together a broad and inclusive public with the ever-growing community of artists and architects that comprise the National Academy of Design.
